You are What You Believe

The world is full of all kinds of sayings like ìan apple a day keeps the doctor awayî or ìyou are what you eatî and many of them have a measure of truth to them. Yet there is one phrase that rings truer than most. When you hear, ìyou are what you believeî, that phrase is simply stating the truth. How people feel about themselves is directly reflected in who they are. If you have trouble with your self-esteem and how you feel about yourself, the problem most likely lies in some kind of fear or negative idea you are clinging to. No one wants to feel badly, have fears or embrace negativity, but the human mind can be a mysterious thing. Luckily, the human mind is also a very powerful thing.

When you feel that you are what you believe and you genuinely want to change that, you need to find the fire and strength within to you make that change happen. You need to know what you want to feel and who you want to be in order to make it happen.

Many people find it difficult to even thing about how they can find the kind of fire and strength that they need in order to make positive changes in their self-esteem. It isnít uncommon to need a bit of help in finding what you already have within you to get the ball rolling.

Start with some easy exercises that are not all that threatening and can open your eyes to some wonderful truths about who you are already. First, begin keeping a journal. Write down everything you are proud of that youíve achieved in your life. Focus especially on what youíve accomplished as an adult and begin to allow yourself to be proud of what youíve done.

Next, take a look at any improvements you want to make. Donít be critical in doing this. Recognize where you want to improve and indicate any strides you feel youíve already made. It is okay to take the opportunity to feel proud of every accomplishment no matter how small you feel it might be!

Sometimes these two activities can be very difficult for people who really struggle with how they feel about who they are. This is the time to think about seeking some help from a professional who is not going to judge or ridicule you. A life coach or therapist can do wonders just by listening and offering new perspectives.

There is an unnecessary stigma associated with therapy and it prevents people from seeking help that can actually provide a positive change in their lives. If you feel you just canít see a therapist or life coach, sometimes a good friend is able to offer perspective along with new ideas.

If you donít believe in yourself and that you are worthy or deserving of good things, your attitude will reflect that and life will not be easy or pleasant for you. If you believe you are less than you actually are, people will see you that way.

You need to believe you are important, special and deserving of all good things. People who already feel this way donít have to be rich or have a high-paying job. They have the ultimate ìpaycheckî by enjoying being in their own skin without questioning or fearing who they really are inside.

Taking any step at all is the first step toward overcoming your fears and negative beliefs. Somewhere deep inside of everyone they know that they are a good person who is worthwhile in every way. Take the first step to begin enjoying how you actually feel about you
