What I have come to realize is that one of the reasons I put off, postponed, and procrastinated is simply because I was not prepared. Quite often, that is what it comes down to. And while the stereotypical advice, "Stop procrastinating!" certainly has merit and may be offered and with the best of intentions, the solution is may seem absent.
How do you stop procrastination? How do you, "Just do it!" ? I have discovered that procrastination is a side effect of a lack of preparation and planning. By "preparation," I mean gathering the essential information and acquiring the knowledge you need to accomplish your goals. And by "planning," I mean deciding how and when you will apply the knowledge you have acquired. Here's the problem with most of us: we hear the information, but we do not apply it consistently enough so that it begins to work for us. We will try once or twice, but we never do it long enough to condition our minds to the change our negative patterns.
Many of you know I am helping people change their bodies and mind set based on my experience on NBC's reality show "The Biggest Loser. I often tell the participants in my boot camps that you must plan to succeed. So, what do I mean? If you know you need eat several times a day, then you must prepare and plan for it the day before. If you know you have to exercise 3 times a week and you have to travel for work, then you need to call in advance to find out the type of exercise equipment the hotel has on the premises, or call to locate the nearest gym. It is that important! "Failing to plan is planning to fail" is a quote I have heard many times. I finally realize the power of it.
