The Importance Of Branding Yourself In Your Company
By Ken Canion
With  competition looming large on almost all products, it is indeed surprising that 'brand names' still sell like the proverbial 'hot-cakes'. A deep insight is required to understand the human tendency of sticking to branded products for years together. It is the expectation from a product, along with the more important 'continued' satisfaction gained from it that results in unflinching 'brand loyalties'. Surely, the lure of trying newer products cannot be completely done away with, but after having tried out other products as well, brand loyalists generally fall back on their tested product.

The corporate world is your very own ‘personal’ world which requires you to ‘brand yourself’ for success. It is a rewarding but challenging task, especially with the countless expectations you have to live up to. ‘Branding’ yourself in your company requires you to project yourself as a ‘complete’ individual in all respects. Your strength of character, your beliefs, the values you uphold, etc. are some of the ‘trade-marks’ that distinguish you as a brand form your competitors. Just like product branding defines and delivers a promised experience, effective ‘personal branding’ helps you become an asset to your company through the thoughts and values you stand up for.

‘Branding yourself’ is no mean task – it incorporates cultivating a strong value system, and proving yourself through the tests of time. The beliefs that you nurture to create a personal identity should be effective enough to see you through the harsh realities of the cutthroat competition you face from others. Initial pitfalls should not dishearten you; rather they should strengthen you further. Success does not come easy; it has to be continuously worked at. Success comes through getting specific knowledge about the branding process and implementing what you learn.

Setting yourself apart from the others in your company is so important these days that you need to remember some golden rules that will never fail you. Though there are a number of qualities that companies look for in their employees, the basic requirements are, more or less, the same. In a ‘brand’ called ‘you’, the company you work for looks at your capability as well as your credibility. So let the ‘branded you’ be an individual with a promise or guarantee, in whom your company can expect the following:
  • Display of your unique attributes in a way that benefits the company
  • Visibility establishes credibility.
  • Volunteer to head projects and go the extra mile
  • Attend networking events
  • Praise colleagues and boss regularly
  • Ask for assignments that will boost your profile
  • Promise less and deliver more
Remember, you can hit upon infinite ways of ‘branding yourself’ for your company, which indirectly means carving a special niche for yourself in your area of work. Let your work speak and you speak up, and definitely, success will follow you wherever you go, whatever you do. Grasp the gist of success in the words, Tell the world what you can do, then show it” and make yourself indispensable for your company.
