Entrepreneurs Must Become A Brand Name
By Ken Canion

All set to step into the big, wide world of entrepreneurs? Well, the day you hit upon a business plan, you almost certainly have to build a name, your reputation - your own ‘brand’. It is not the products of your business that will need to be branded; the very first step would be’ branding your personal self as entrepreneur’. All big names worth a mention in the world of entrepreneurs are ‘trademark brands’ themselves.

Working towards branding yourself as an entrepreneur is a deliberate, conscious, step-by-step process in which you have to constantly strive to keep bettering your own personal attributes – those attributes which would become an extended reflection of your character and personality. A few attributes worth mentioning would be-

  • Clarity of thought
  • Consistency of behavior
  • A distinctly ‘magnetic’ personality
  • ‘Constant’ evolvement of self
  • Vigilant of the market trends
  • Leading your team with exemplary qualities
  • Effective communication skills
  • Complete involvement in your project
  • Making yourself and your company ‘visible’

All such attributes, which can help you achieve a unique persona, can be added to this exhaustive list. Personal branding of entrepreneurs is the new-age tool to establish a small business. It is initial requirement for your product to become distinguishable in the face of the competition from other products. You have to make a place for your product – this implies you have to make a place for yourself! Stand up for your product – allow yourself to be ‘heard’ and ‘seen’ in the business circles. In other words, ‘promote’ yourself to successfully promote your product.

Since ‘personal branding’ has acquired global dimension, it is mandatory for you to realize its significance in today’s world – the sooner the better. You have to be ‘at it’ all the time – there is no future for those who stand still and watch events take their turn. You have to make things happen for yourself – let innovative ideas be your ‘brand ambassador’. Every now and then, you have to assess yourself and your associates, your functional area. Stay connected, with the outside world and anything that might affects your brands position.

For acquiring a ‘brand name’ as an entrepreneur, you need to make efforts to stay tuned to ‘what’ is happening in the industry you are a part of. Keep yourself updated; try to add value to your business with your ‘branded’ strength of character. Allow yourself to ‘be’ more of your own self, and let the others ‘see’ that perspective; let your ‘brand’ become a ‘prospective’ brand to reckon with. Put who you are into what you do and how you do it – try to come across an entrepreneur with passion, dynamism, foresight, drive, authenticity and intelligence. Go right ahead and ‘make your mark’!
